The International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) has something for everyone. They offer professional, semi-professional and local level racing at its best. The drivers are young, old, black, white, male and female. You never know who’s going to get paired up at the starting line. But one thing is for sure; once they pull up to the light, all are equal. It’s not about age, race or gender it’s about reaction times, performance and speed!
We first went to “The Rock” after Alan came home from his first deployment. He had seen on the internet that Spring Nationals were coming up and wanted to go. He ordered the tickets online while still overseas and we prayed he would get home in time. I had watched drag racing on TV from time to time and knew kind of what it was about. Believe me when I say it’s nothing like being there! You don’t just hear the Top Fuel cars when they take off, you feel it! Spring Nationals and World Finals at the Rock are each three days of non-stop racing action from sun up to around 10 at night. They offer pit passes so you can also go around and look at the different cars and meet the drivers. Everyone we’ve met has been really friendly, down to earth people. They even have church services on Saturday and Sunday for the drivers and their crews provided by God Speed Ministry. Race fans are also invited to attend. The owner of Rockingham Dragway, Mr. Steve Earwood, is a good Christian man who fully supports God Speed Ministry not only by allowing them time for services, but with his attendance as well. It’s good to know you can get away for a few days, enjoy some exciting racing and still get to go to church! Thank you Mr. Earwood for all that you do.
