Praise the
Parrot
In 2009, we vacationed in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Always looking for
something different, something off the beaten path, we found a brochure for a
place called Parrot Mountain and Gardens. It was obvious from the layout that
this was a Christian based place. It definitely caught our interest. We
weren’t disappointed! They have the most beautiful, most amazing birds I’ve
ever seen! There was one in particular though that seemed to be everyone’s
favorite. Her name was Praise. We spoke at length with a young girl named
Kristen, who works there. She told us all about this amazing place and its
owners Fletcher and Isabel Hollingsworth. She also told us how Praise got her
name. She said that when Praise was first rescued she couldn’t talk. Fletcher
and Isabel worked and worked with her, but no matter how hard they tried, they
couldn’t get her to speak. One day Praise was out for a little walk and this
dog came along and grabbed ahold of her. When they were able to get the dog
away from her, they looked to find her lying on the ground with her eyes
closed and her feet in the air. They were afraid the dog had killed her. To
their surprise, her eyes flew open and she began to shout, “Praise the Lord!”
over and over again… about fifteen times according to Kristen. So that’s how
she got the name Praise. Now, whenever folks visit Parrot Mountain she has a
special message for them. Kristen will ask her, “What’s the good word?” To
which Praise responds with, “Praise the Lord!”

f you’ve never been to Parrot Mountain and Gardens you might want to drop in
for a visit if you happen to be in the area. I guarantee you’ll get a blessing
from it! We sure did!
